Richard Nixon's missing 18 minutes of tape is nothing compared to the stir caused by the insertion of two inane videos onto the public record of the Oxnard City Council - actually not the public record, but the re-re-recorded public broadcast of the digitally diced public record of the official proceedings of the Oxnard City Council Meeting.

Several citizens are questioning whether the city council can insert public comment onto the public record after the fact......

Last week's city council icing on the cake was the LNG Letter, which the Oxnard City Council had to decide, if they were or not in favor of an off-shore LNG Facility pumping cryogenic fart gas ashore in Oxnard.

At the near end of the Oxnard City Council meeting 30+ speakers waited until 11pm to say their bit of public three minutes of jabber-jawing in favor or against the LNG letter the Council was proposing to send to the Federal Government, and all others, et al.

The Council already had drafted a letter against using Oxnard as an anus for the fart tube to deliver it's sub-zero enema of potentially dangerous by-product from 'down-under'.

Mayor Lopez "polled the jury" in asking for any speakers to give up their their three minutes of fame to allow local attorney Tim Riley to present his comments on video vice the spoken public word which is the normal manner to address the city council and make your comments known on public record. 

11 citizens surrendered their three minutes so Tim Riley's video-borne comments could be aired onto the record.

The remaining attendees blurted out their opinions, but all words would soon fade to black as the ominous video was soon to air.

Mayor Lopez called out,.." next speaker is Tim Riley...."

Tim came to podium and basically expressed..."Lights - Camera - Action."

The action was a thirty minute I-Love-Tim-Riley LoveFest.  At first appearance, the video could have been a  Viagara commercial with the couple on the beach, hand-in-hand -- then the close ups of the couple.   The net effect of the video, with cameo appearances of Mayor Lopez - appearing as Mayor Lopez giving his comments during public comment period was ethically challenging.  The sum total of Riley's video was a thirty minute slick video show which tells of the danger of LNG anywhere near Oxnard.
 
The thirty minutes of the Riley info-mercial was a tad bit too much for some councilmembers to take.  Pinkford and Mauldean wanted equal representation of all sides on the LNG issue represented at public comments.  This whole video item was becoming a dilemma and mess for the council.  Fairness was touted as Tim Riley's anti-LNG video held center stage and the rapt attention of the council proceedings audience.

The demand of the not-included-in-the-video councilmen was to insert similar "Video-formatted" public comment clips into the city council video record of proceedings.

What followed was three days of video garble with noticeable tampering of the end product by what appeared to be unprofessional editors.

City TV staff crudely inserted two videos onto the tail end of the official video record of the Oxnard City Council.  The first was an animated tale, narrated by an Aussie propelled on Fosters, and the second video was cutting room floor clippings from some 1960's high school science film.  Both inserts were poor in all regards to Attorney Riley's video masterpiece.

It doesn't take much to upset the public's opinion of the way the City does business and this latest fiasco of re-writing public history is just another stunning example of how new leadership is needed on the city council.
